Aliso Viejo Girls Softball (AVGS) has a highly successful and competitive all-star program. Our All-Star teams are designated ASA Class “B”, which is the highest designated level for Recreational Leagues. Our All-Star program has competed for more than 14 years throughout the county, the greater Southern California area, and has often traveled outside of the state to compete at the national level.

AVGS has a reputation for excellence. We are proud of our players, coaches and managers that consistently compete at the highest level and represent the community with grace and sportsmanship. Our Recreational program has fueled the success of our All-Star Teams, but the All-Star program is separate from the Recreational Program.

The AVGS Board of Directors has put together this general interest form for players and families to learn more about the program and player selection process and the time and financial commitments families must make if selected to participate in the program.

Please note: Completion of this interest form does not guarantee participation in All-Stars.

All Star General Information
Per USA Softball guidelines, the nomination and selection of All Star coaches and players cannot take place prior to April 29th. Coaches are selected by their coaching peers and approved by the Board of Directors. Players are selected by a vote of the Head Coaches in each division. Once a coach is selected, he/she will have some ability to select their team as indicated below.

At least two All Star teams will be formed for each division (8u, 10u and 12u). The first team selected in each division will be the Gold team followed by the selection of a Silver team. A second Silver team may be selected in any division with the consent of the coaches and with Board approval.

2018 All Star Interest Form

All Star Eligibility
The league requires that a parent or legal guardian completes the 2018 All Star Interest Form for their player to be eligible for selection. Players must be registered with AVGS and have played in at least 75% of AVGS Spring games. Players who have participated with a travel-type team after March 31st are ineligible.

Head coaches will evaluate players for All Star consideration based on the player's performance during the season as well as tryouts.

At tryouts, players will demonstrate their skills in areas such as bunting, hitting, infield and outfield play. The coaches will be evaluating for All Star players based on the player's performance on the field during the season, including the mid-season and end of season tournaments.

All Star Voting Process
On April 29th, the coaches will get together to vote on All Star coaches and players.  Prior to voting on the players, there will be an open discussion in which each coach will be given the opportunity to talk about each player's qualifications to be chosen as an All Star. Following the discussions, the Head Coaches will vote on the players.

Players will be ranked based on the total number of points received. The top 6 ranked players will be on the Gold team. The Gold coach will finalize the remaining spots on his/her roster by selecting from the remainder of players. Once the Gold team is set, the process will repeat for the Silver team. The top 6 remaining players are automatically on the Silver team and the Silver coach will select the remaining players for the team. If a third team is formed, this process will be repeated for that team.

All Star Coaches will contact players to notify them of their selection to each team no later than Monday, April 30th. We will do our best to post the All Star rosters on the AVGS website as soon as possible after they are selected and approved.

Commitment
There is a significant time and financial commitment to participating in All Stars. Each team will set their own practice schedule but you can expect around 4 - 6 practices per week starting the week of May 1st in preparation for tournament play and a minimum of 3 per week once tournament play begins. The tournament schedule is listed on the All Star Interest Form. Each team will play at least through their District tournament with the possibility of more tournaments after based on their performance.

The registration fee for All Stars includes all tournament registration fees, two jerseys, one pant, insurance, and field costs. All other incidental expenses are the responsibility of the families, including but not limited to the following: spirit wear, All Star Jackets, matching All Star Helmets and equipment bags, custom socks, additional uniforms, and travel expenses (1 - 2 tournaments are "out of town").
